Year 3 students across both campuses took a hands-on approach this week in HASS, exploring democracy, voting and the creation of rules and laws.
Through role-playing, they elected a Mayor for the local community and attended a ‘Local Council’ meeting – an engaging way to learn how the voting system works and how local laws are passed. The students enjoyed the incursion, especially debating the current ‘hot topic’ of whether dogs should be allowed off-leash in parks. It was wonderful to see their enthusiasm and growing understanding of democracy, community, and their own role in society.
Although eager to participate in a real election, they will have to wait a little longer!
