On Tuesday, a large group of our musical and small group singing students had the wonderful opportunity to participate in a workshop with internationally recognised opera singer Boyd Owen, a Heathdale alumnus who has performed around the world. In Australia, Boyd is best known as a member of The Ten Tenors and also performs with various companies, including Melbourne Opera.
During the afternoon, Boyd answered students’ questions about the performing arts and music industry, covering topics such as managing performance anxiety, vocal projection, voice care, career paths, auditioning and more. He led students through exercises to help them use their voices correctly when singing and shared practical tricks to calm their vagus nerve, ensuring optimal performance even when feeling nervous.
After school, Boyd joined the small group choral competition rehearsals, providing invaluable coaching that significantly improved each group’s timing, projection and harmonies in just 15 minutes.
We are incredibly grateful for the time, energy and expertise Boyd shared with us.
