Our Year 9 Culture & Environment students put on an impressive display of their sustainability research projects on Tuesday night.

As part of their studies, Culture & Environment students work in groups to undertake action-research projects exploring areas of sustainability in their school or home. This year’s projects included researching rubbish in the schoolyard and developing innovative solutions.

One notable project was the “slam dunk” rubbish bin lids, which encourage students to use the bins for rubbish disposal through the positioning of basketball-style hoops that create a playful incentive to get rubbish into the bin.

A number of students explored composting solutions, recycling opportunities, green walls, plants for kitchen gardens, and encouraging students to reuse books and use more green energy for transportation.

Year 9 Visual Communication Design students also had their sustainability design posters on display, and our Year 9 Art students showcased their “Sustaining Childhood Memory” air-dried clay pieces.

Congratulations to the winners on the night! “Stylishly Sustainable” – Dellina and Sung Sung – won the People’s Choice Award for their upcycling project with Year 7 textiles students. The Principal’s Choice Award went to Kate and Estelle for their highly successful fashion swap shop.
