The book of Ecclesiastes tells us that that there is a time and a season for everything. The school year draws to a close, Christmas is glowing on the horizon and the long summer holidays await!

At school, we mark the final season of the year with some very special events. Our Thanksgiving Evenings on Monday, 2nd of December, allowed us to reflect on the year, celebrate achievements together and rejoice in God’s faithfulness to us.

We were able to see the graduation of another cohort of over 100 young men and women who have grown in wisdom and in character as they’ve tackled their final year. As we look forward to finding out their employment or tertiary destinations over the summer, we wish them God’s richest blessings and a deep knowledge of his presence in their lives.

Last Friday was the House Choral Competition, an annual and much beloved Heathdale tradition that continues to go from strength to strength. Those in the audience – current students, staff parents and many alumni – were treated to wonderful performances from the mass choirs and small groups. Congratulations to our winners:

Overall Win: Carey House (four years running!)

Best Mass Choir: Taylor House, with ‘How Far I’ll Go’ from Moana

Best Small Group: Carey House, with ‘golden hour’ by JVKE

Best Accompanist: Clark Harvey, Judson House

Best Conductor: Charlyse Wood, Stanway House

This final week has included the Year 9 Step-Up Camp to Belgrave, where we celebrated the end of the first half of the high school and explored what mindsets we might need to take into the second half of that journey. Year 7s and Year 8s have also had special activities back on campus to mark the end of another school year.

As you move into your own family traditions that mark the season, may Christ’s love for an aching world, and his gift of himself, encourage your heart this year, and may you have many opportunities to give thanks and be filled with joy as you gather and celebrate.

See you in the next season!
