Bushfire Assistance

Heathdale flower

We have all seen the devastation and impact of the bushfires across our country over the past few weeks and, in some places, months.

Our thoughts and prayers are with all those who have been, and are continuing to be, affected by the bushfires and dealing with the aftermath. We know this has also impacted some of our school families, staff and their relatives in various ways and our hearts go out to them, too. To every person involved in graciously serving their local communities during this time, you are doing amazing work. Thank you.

Once our school term commences, we will be actively looking at ways our school community can support and assist the affected communities as they begin to rebuild, as well as ways we can honour and thank volunteers. Until this time, if you wish to and have not already done so, you can donate at any of the following:

Victorian Government Bushfire Appeal

Red Cross Bushfire Appeal

Salvation Army Bushfire Appeal

WWF Australia - Wildlife Bushfire Appeal

We realise that discussing events like this with younger children can be difficult.

To assist you, our Pastoral Care team has put together some information on discussing the bushfires with your children. You can view this by clicking here.

We have also placed some further resources below which you may find helpful.

How the fires can affect children... The Carousel

How to talk to your children about Australia's bushfires... Unicef

A further resource to assist where children have encountered a traumatic experience can be found here in this video.

Let us hope and pray that this more mild weather continues and that rainfall positively affects these bushfires. We pray for continued safety for our emergency service personnel and communities which continue to be under threat.

Blessings,

Ross Grace
