Bright Horizons Ahead

As the school year draws to a close, we celebrate cherished moments, honour dedicated staff and prepare our students for exciting new chapters filled with growth and opportunity.

As we approach the end of another enriching school year, we look forward to a time of celebration, reflection and preparation for what’s next. There is much to look forward to in the final weeks especially with our Celebration Nights, learning expo, fun activities, final assemblies and our Year 6 Graduation. Celebration Night is a special highlight of the school year, so please, parents, join me in dressing with a bit of Christmas cheer and sparkle for the event!

Vanessa Ashwin

As with the end of every year, there is movement with staff. I would like to give a special mention to Vanessa Ashwin from our Kinder department.

For 12 years of service at Heathdale, Vanessa has been an amazing Kinder teacher. She has demonstrated dedication, passion and commitment to the growth and development of her students. Her kindness and enthusiasm have made a lasting impact on countless children and their families, and she has been a true blessing to all of us. In her role as Kindergarten Teacher, Vanessa has been able to speak words of life, hope and faith to children in their foundation year, teaching them about God and instilling values of kindness, curiosity and resilience. Over the years, Vanessa has fostered strong, warm relationships with both parents and students, earning their deep affection and respect.

She is well loved by students, parents and staff. We pray for God’s covering over her future endeavours, that she may find joy, fulfillment and new adventures in this next phase of her life. Please join me in celebrating Vanessa and wishing her all the best as she retires from her position. Thank you, Vanessa, for everything you have done for our students and the Heathdale community. You will be greatly missed!

Looking Forward

For our Primary-age children, moving into a new year is filled with excitement and we know it can also come with a few uncertainties. Our goal is to help make this transition smooth and joyful for every child.

Alongside staff movement sometimes there is student movement and moving into a new year often brings changes in friendship groups, as some students may transition to new class groupings or even schools. For children, these changes can feel significant. We encourage you to talk openly with your child, reassuring them that, while some friends may be moving class (or to another environment), the opportunity to build new friendships is just around the corner. Here at school, we’ll be supporting our students through inclusive activities that encourage everyone to make connections and feel part of the school community.

We understand that one of the biggest questions on your children’s minds, and maybe your own is, “Who will be my homeroom teacher next year?” In response, we will be releasing teacher allocations the week before the school year ends. This will give students and families a chance to know their new teacher and begin preparing for the year ahead, reducing the anxiety that can come from the unknown.

Orientation days are a wonderful opportunity for children to step into their new environments. These sessions allow students to explore their future classrooms and get a feel for the space they’ll be spending time in next year. This early exposure helps children feel more at ease and gives them a tangible experience of what to expect.

We are committed to making these transitions as comfortable as possible and encourage you to reach out to your child’s current or future teachers with any concerns. As we close this year, we celebrate the growth we’ve witnessed in each of our students and anticipate a bright, God-centred future for every child in our care.
